Title: Diagnostics, Therapy and Follow-up of Thyroid Function Deviaton with MeriDiM® Meridian Diagnostic Device and Ear Acupuncture

Background:
Over the past 20 years we have successfully implemented auriculo-therapy in our clinical practice with special regard to thyroid function disorders. In the next example previously conventional therapies (drugs) were applied for a year without any results – lab results deteriorated, and the patient was scheduled for thyroid isotope therapy and thyroid operation.

Aim
Our goal is to shed light onto the possibility of using proper meridian diagnostics and auriculo-therapy as an alternative or complementary method.

Methods
After western-style diagnostics (including a blood-test) we worked by our electronic Meridian diagnostic device (MeriDiM). The healing points (offered by the device) were first treated by softlaser, then we applied press needles to specific points to control thyroid overwork. The case and its follow-up have been documented for 3 year.

Results
A week after the first treatment hormone T4 lowered from 24,73 to 18,67 (normal range) and T3 decreased from 8,95 to 7,92 pmol/l. Treatment was done in every second week; after 80 days another lab test revealed that both hormones were within the normal range (T4: 17,18 pmol/l <normal 12-22pmol/l> , T3: 6,63 pmol/l <normal 3,1-6,8 pmol/l>). Following that there was no treatment and after 6 months TRAK exam was made with favourable results (1,12 IU/l). Follow-up: two further lab test (January and October, 2013) have revealed that the examined hormone data remained within the normal range. The last lab test showed that TSH level has also become normal (0,33 mIU/l)

Summary /Conclusions
Our study is to document a case with combined diagnostics (laboratory tests and Meridian dignostics) which show well that thyroid malfuctions can be treated well by auriculo-therapy. That can mean an alternative methods to conventional medication and /or operation.
